Laura J. Lederer, Combating Modern-Day Slavery
Laura J. Lederer, a former senior trafficking advisor in the State Department, will discuss the challenges of fighting domestic sex trafficking through legislative and other efforts. Lederer has been a pioneer in the fight against trafficking and the founder of the Protection Project, a research institute at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and which is now run from Johns Hopkins University. She currently runs a non-profit policy center, the Global Centurion Foundation. She has also been an adjunct law professor at Georgetown Law Center.

The Inaugural Lillian Stone Distinguished Lecture in Environmental Policy: "The Changing Face of Nature Conservation," with Kathryn Fuller
Kathryn Fuller is chair of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and serves on the board of both the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Alcoa. She is president emerita and honorary board member of the World Wildlife Fund. She was chair of the Ford Foundation from 2004-10. Earlier, she held several positions in the Justice Department, culminating as chief of the Wildlife and Marine Resources Section. A reception will take place before and after the talk.

In light of the longstanding dissatisfaction with how disclosures have failed to inform consumers and new work suggesting that disclosure should be replaced by a new regulatory regime geared toward changing default choices, this two-day conference will explore whether disclosure has an important role to play in consumer financial regulation in the future or whether it is a relic that should be replaced. The conference will begin with papers that explore foundational questions in consumer disclosure. Later, disclosure will be explored in a variety of contexts and recently implemented approaches will be discussed.

Our Soldiers Speak: Commander of the IDF's International Law Department Speaks About International Military Force
Lt. Col. Dr. Shamir-Borer holds a doctorate from NYU and is an active, serving member of the international law branch of the Israeli Defense Forces. He is intimately involved in the planning and implementation of military operations. He will present on the subject of “the legal challenges of asymmetrical warfare.” In this presentation he will analyze and outline the legal merits and demerits of the prosecution of wars by western democracies when faced by non-state actors. Shamir-Borer will highlight and outline aspects of the subject matter that are common to those challenges faced by the U.S. military in recent years.
